It may be most famous for its incredible Alps, but Switzerland also has beautiful lakes. Lake Oeschinen (Oeschinensee) sits at 1,578 metres above sea level, surrounded by sheer cliff walls and permanent snow-capped peaks that reflect perfectly in its emerald-green water.
The easiest way up is via the gondola from Kandersteg, followed by a 30-minute walk. The lake itself is perfect for swimming in summer — cold but crystal clear. You can also rent rowing boats and pedal boats.
The area around the lake offers several hiking trails at different difficulty levels. The most popular is the loop around the lake shore, which takes about 2 hours and offers stunning views from every angle.
